If These Walls Could Talk: Intramuros with Carlos Celdran

January 3, 2012 - One Response

For those who have never even been to the walled city of Intramuros, try to visit while the walls are actually still standing. To make it an even greater and more memorable experience, take the tour with Carlos Celdran.He.is.the.bomb.

With his witty lines, anecdotes and his views on religion, politics and well history, it’s a history lesson like you’ve never seen and heard before. If my professor was as fun as this guy, I would have ACED that course.

I won’t go on and on about the whole tour here. Spoilers are just no fun don’t you think?

Wanna change how you look at Manila? Then walk this way with Carlos Celdran. Check out his website here.

Since I won’t be going into detail about the tour itself. Let me rename this blog into “IF THESE PICTURES COULD TALK”. Enjoy!

Bring it on 2012!

Spent new year’s eve and new year’s day at home with the family but I wouldn’t have it any other way.

2012 looked a hell of a lot different in my mind last year. Oh well, things change, plans don’t push through, life goes on. We gotta make do with the here and now. Gotta keep on shufflin.

2012, I’m ready for you. Show me the money!!!!!

Amen to that!

“There is really not enough time to do nothing”

With 2 jobs and a million other side projects, free time is almost becoming a figment of my imagination. When the opportunity rose for a weekend getaway, I jumped at the chance.

Road trip to the North of Cebu to the Sandiego’s Beach House in Tabuelan. THANKS ANDIE!

Camping, Steak, Booze, Football and a whole lot more fun under the sun. I need me some more of these…

Singaporena Birthday 2011

August 13, 2011 - Leave a Response

Singapore-la!!!

Took a solo trip on my birthday week and realized that traveling alone is a totally different and wonderful experience. You have all the time in the world to explore, eat, drink, sightsee, listen and just take in everything. The downside is there’s no one to really take my picture. Although, it was a great opportunity to test out my brand new baby Lumix and discover the joys of photography.

I don’t think I’ve ever walked so much in my life. The weather is like standing behind a bus and just soaking in all that wonderful hot air from the exhaust. The conversation with my friend James put it into perspective:

James: You look like a tourist.
Me: Why? Cos i’m so big?
James: No cos you’re sweating buckets

Well like I always say, the best way to experience a country is to take it to the streets, heat and all. Awesome-la!

Thanks to James, Hannah, Rachelle, Joanna and of course my incredible host Ida (for letting me crash at your place and babysitting me during train rides hehe ) and also special mention to Garth for tagging along at Universal Studios hahaha. I love you guys!

Happy 26th to me! Til Next Time Singapura, you haven’t seen the last of me!!

Dear Kids,

Was out of the country for the week. Miss me?

Anyway for a copy of last week’s discussion, you can download the file from here:

http://www.mediafire.com/?w64kk88d25zeelq

Everything’s in there including the brainteasers. Go ahead and test it on your friends. It’ll make you feel real smart, witty and more popular. Everyone’s gonna want to be you. Nope, not really. Anyway, make this as your guide in formulating creative briefs or for just about anything you want. The possibilities are endless.

Reminders for next meeting  July 16, 2011

A. ″What’s the Big Idea?” – don’t forget your ads!

This time it’s not just about “I like this ad blah blah”.  I want you to dissect the ad and tell me the following based on what you submit:

1. Who is the ad talking to? Target Market

2. What is the ad about? Benefits

3. How was it executed? Message Statement/ Creative Handle*

* What’s the difference?

Message Statement – Encompasses the thought of the Ad/ Campaign

Ex. Burger King Burgers are so Huge they rip your mouth open

Creative Handle – Catchy phrase that can  be used as your tagline or headline

Ex. REAL BIG BURGERS, THE HULK OF BURGERS

B. Creative Brief Assignment 1: Starbucks Glen Survivor

C. Creative Brief Assignment 2: Cheers Beer

Write a Creative Brief Draft of the following ads based on the given components:

How to write a creative brief
1.Objective2.Target Market 3.Product/Service 4.Brand Attributes/ Character 5.Features/ Benefits 6.Competition 7.Message Statement 8.Creative Handle 9.Execution 10.Media

This is not a formal brief but I don’t want formal paperwork, I want kids who KNOW and UNDERSTAND. Let’s save the formalities for more boring occasions like funerals. You can write it or print it on any paper even scratch. I’m environmentally-inclined so it doesn’t matter to me as long as you submit.

For those too lazy to search on youtube. Here are the two of my most favorite ads in the world.

Email your artwork and ads to hello@copycarla.com. For the creative briefs, bring it in class.

Remember: You can always NOT do your project in lieu of the 4-Page, Double Spaced, 12″ Helvetica Essay.
Have  a great week! Seeya Saturday.

One more thing…

For those who want to dive into a real press conference. I’m inviting everyone from class to the Outpost on Thursday July 14 for the Flash/Sound Event. Assignment for my aspiring copywriters: Write a Post-Event Press Release. Afterwards, we can partey the night away. A round of beer on me.

I was 14 years old when I first heard the riffs of My Own Summer on NU 107 back in 1999. The first song I learned on my own on the gee-tarz was Bored. This was a band that made up my high-school rock and roll lifestyle.

EPIC is an understatement. More than 10 long fuckin’ years and finally finally finally DEFTONES live.Mad props to Nikki Ong for the documentation.Legendary. Amazing. Best. It was…I was…SHIT deftones na gyud bai
